The Language Centre of the University of Management and Economics is an academic centre, responsible for all English language skills teaching and testing and related research in the University. All students entering the University of Management and Economics must take English as a University requirement and where degree majors require it, as a school requirement.

The Language Centre offers a range of English language skills courses to each of the schools in the University. These language skills courses vary in style and content according to whether the students are taking their degree majors through the medium of English.

To ensure that all students taking English-medium degree majors receive appropriate English language courses, the Language Centre administers a English Language Assessment test to all of these students upon entry to the University. Students are assigned to a range of English language skills courses in accordance with their level of proficiency.

All English language skills courses are carefully worked out to meet the needs of the students in each school in terms of their own degree programme requirements. All English language skills courses are evaluated in the normal way using continuous assessment and achievement testing.
